Vertiv Holdings Co: Vertiv is a useful way to study the AI boom without looking only at the companies selling models or GPUs. In the September quarter, the infrastructure provider reported 61% sales growth to $4.31 billion, while organic orders rose by more than 100%. Orders, sales and cash receipts are three different steps in the same commercial process.1
The eight-quarter context
Vertiv's quarterly revenue grew from $2.676 billion in Q3 2025 to $4.313 billion in Q3 2026, a gain of about 61%. Its operating income rose from approximately $517 million to $984 million. The simple GAAP operating margin increased from about 19.3% to 22.8%, a material sign of operating leverage in equipment sold to data centers.1
The company's reported organic orders increased by more than 100%, outpacing organic revenue growth of 55%. This matters because orders are commitments and customer activity indicators, not current-quarter GAAP revenue. They require production, procurement, shipping and service delivery before they can support accounting profit. A rising order book does not guarantee a specific conversion margin.1
The reported financial picture
The primary source is the October 28, 2026 earnings announcement for Calendar Q3 2026; US GAAP. The amounts below use the company's published definitions, with non-GAAP measures explicitly labelled.1
| Metric | Reported figure |
|---|---|
| Net sales | $4.31B |
| Reported sales growth | +61% |
| Organic sales growth | +55% |
| Organic order growth | Over 100% |
| Adjusted operating margin | 25.2% |
Why order growth matters—and what it does not say
The order figure suggests a powerful pipeline for power and cooling equipment, but it does not mean the company can deliver all equipment immediately. Capacity, parts, installation schedules and customer acceptance can delay the recognition of revenue.
Vertiv reported 55% organic sales growth, with the remainder of reported growth partly related to acquisitions. That distinction is essential for assessing the underlying business; investors should not describe the full 61% increase as like-for-like sales.1
The cash-flow evidence is encouraging but not conclusive
The company disclosed $794 million of operating cash flow and $652 million of adjusted free cash flow for the quarter. The latter is a company-defined non-GAAP measure and should be used with the reconciliation in the source release.1
Higher demand can require more working capital and factory capacity. A business may show a growing order book while cash is temporarily tied up in inventories or receivables. The next report should demonstrate whether deliveries and cash conversion continue to follow orders.
Financial performance and demand indicators have different recognition and cash-flow timing. For a responsible comparison, distinguish reported revenue from orders or guidance, and use the same reporting basis and period.
What the cash-flow statement adds
Clarifo's reported and derived quarterly SEC cash data show operating cash flow of $794 million and equipment capex of $139 million in Q3 2026. The same quarter a year earlier generated about $509 million in operating cash with $45 million of capex. As the company scales, its own manufacturing and working-capital investment needs may grow even if customers bear the larger expense of constructing data centers.1
Vertiv also disclosed $652 million of adjusted free cash flow for the quarter. A simple cash-flow-statement subtraction yields roughly $655 million; the difference reflects the company's chosen non-GAAP definition and rounding. A defensible article must identify which measure is plotted rather than treating the adjusted cash-flow metric as a GAAP line.1
The question investors still need answered
Across the supply chain, Vertiv's demand signal arrives at a different moment from AWS or Azure revenue. Power and cooling systems are needed before computing capacity reaches full utilization. The next comparison should look at order-to-sales conversion, cancellation or deferral risk, margins and cash tied up in inventories.
Organic orders and adjusted free cash flow are management-defined operating measures. The SEC cash flow figure is consolidated and may be derived from year-to-date quarters.
What comes next
Monitor the gap between organic order growth and recognized organic sales, adjusted-versus-GAAP profitability, and working-capital intensity.
For the wider investor debate, see community discussion on Reddit. Those opinions helped select the research question; they do not verify the company's financial statements. The primary source remains the original results announcement.
A deeper comparison should examine the cash-flow statement and operating commitments as well as the income statement. Vertiv Holdings Co on Clarifo provides a starting point for finding historical financial data and filing sources. In related industries, investors should also separate the profitability of equipment suppliers from the return earned by the companies purchasing their products.
Organic orders growth is a leading demand indicator rather than revenue earned. Organic sales exclude acquired business effects, so distinguish them from total reported sales.
