Segment revenue analysis explains which businesses are driving a company's growth, not just how quickly the consolidated total is rising. NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA) reported $96.221 billion in total revenue for Q2 FY2027, the quarter ended 26 July 2026. Its Compute & Networking reportable segment accounted for $88.299 billion, while Graphics contributed $7.922 billion. Together they reconcile to the consolidated total reported in its latest available 10-Q.1
Identify the reportable segments before comparing them
Segment names should come from the issuer's actual reporting structure, not from an investor's product-category assumptions. NVIDIA reports Compute & Networking and Graphics as reportable segments; 'Data Center' is often discussed as a market platform or product group and must not automatically be substituted for the reportable segment. A model that places both on the same segment table may double count revenue.
| Revenue, USD billions | Q2 FY2027 | Q1 FY2027 | Sequential change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compute & Networking | 88.299 | 74.550 | +18.4% |
| Graphics | 7.922 | 7.065 | +12.1% |
| Consolidated revenue | 96.221 | 81.615 | +17.9% |
What the mix tells an investor
Compute & Networking represented roughly 91.8% of NVIDIA's total Q2 FY2027 revenue, versus about 91.3% in Q1. That concentration changes how readers should interpret aggregate growth. A high consolidated growth rate predominantly reflects the economics and demand trajectory of one very large segment. Graphics still matters, but its smaller base means it contributes less to the dollar increase.12
Revenue growth is not the same as segment profitability
Revenue by segment is only the starting point. The follow-up questions concern each segment's operating result, the basis for allocating costs, deferred revenue, customer commitments and changes in product mix. A segment's gross margin or operating margin should be calculated only where the company discloses a compatible cost or segment-profit measure. Dividing group operating profit by one segment's revenue invents a ratio the issuer did not report.
What a cross-company comparison must normalize
Suppose the analyst compares NVIDIA with Advanced Micro Devices or an infrastructure platform. One company's Compute & Networking segment need not equal another company's Data Center segment. Customer sets, product scope, intersegment eliminations and accounting estimates can differ. The comparison should preserve original segment labels, identify overlap and display a 'not like for like' warning where necessary.
For a trend chart, older quarters belong on the left and newer quarters on the right. For a financial table, the latest period should be immediately after the metric name. Derived fiscal Q4 figures need to be flagged as calculated from the annual total less the first three quarters. Do not draw a trend through a missing quarter and present it as continuous.
Use source-aware AI to explain the drivers
Ask for one reportable segment at a time: its revenue in the newest period, its contribution to consolidated revenue and the statements management gives for its change. Then look for counter-evidence about supply, concentration, inventory or demand. The final answer should show the raw figures, calculation and source, not merely a confident paragraph about AI infrastructure.
A second financial layer: segment operating income
NVIDIA's Q2 FY2027 10-Q reports operating income for Compute & Networking of $62.696 billion, versus $28.363 billion in Q2 FY2026. Graphics operating income was $3.899 billion, versus $2.242 billion a year earlier. The operating income for the two reportable segments sums to $66.595 billion in Q2 FY2027, which is not identical to consolidated GAAP operating income of $63.734 billion. The difference highlights the need to inspect corporate or unallocated cost reconciliation before equating the sum of segment profits with group profit.NVIDIA 10-Q
| Operating profit, USD billions | Q2 FY2027 | Q2 FY2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Compute & Networking | 62.696 | 28.363 |
| Graphics | 3.899 | 2.242 |
| Total reportable segments | 66.595 | 30.605 |
That produces an analytically stronger conclusion than the revenue mix alone. Compute & Networking now dominates both revenue and reported segment operating profit. But an investor should still separate the economic profit of the segments from group-level expenses and the pace at which capacity costs are being incurred. The next quarter may show a different relationship as product mix changes.
Customer concentration is material to the growth story
The same 10-Q states that one direct customer represented 16% of NVIDIA's Q2 FY2027 revenue, primarily attributable to Compute & Networking. In Q2 FY2026, two direct customers represented 23% and 16%, respectively. These are disclosed direct-customer concentrations for each specific quarter, not proof of ultimate end-user concentration or a measure of backlog.NVIDIA 10-Q
Optimistic interpretation: the reduction from two separately disclosed large direct customers in the prior-year quarter to one suggests a difference in disclosed concentration profile during rapid sales expansion. Counterview: one customer still accounts for a large share, and reliance on a small number of direct relationships may expose the company to purchase timing, deployment schedules or changes in customers' capital budgets. Those are scenario risks, not observations that demand has already turned down.
Do not mix two revenue taxonomies
NVIDIA reports Data Center revenue of approximately $89.023 billion in Q2 FY2027 in its market-platform breakdown. It also reports $88.299 billion for the Compute & Networking segment in the reportable-segment breakdown. These figures do not represent two additive pieces of the same total. They classify overlapping economic activity using different reporting views. Any chart that stacks them together as though they sum to consolidated revenue would be misleading.NVIDIA 10-Q
During FY2027, NVIDIA also recast comparison periods after changing its market-platform reporting and reclassifying a customer between categories. A responsible trend must preserve the restated basis rather than append a pre-recast category to the new series as though the labels were unchanged. This is precisely the type of comparability issue that a source-aware research workflow should surface.
Our conclusion is conditional: segment concentration gives a clear picture of the growth engine, while the customer and segment-margin disclosures show what could challenge its durability. The next research step is to track the same disclosure lines over matching periods and check that segment definitions have not changed.
